What is Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a primary health-
Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, often gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body which are not functioning correctly. Apart from manipulation, chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including ice, heat, low level laser, exercise and acupuncture as well as advice about posture and lifestyle.
Although chiropractors are best recognised for treating back and neck pain, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a wide range of other acute and chronic musculoskeletal complaints.
Statutory regulation of chiropractic works in the same way as the regulation for conventional medical doctors. It is illegal to practise as a chiropractor or call yourself a chiropractor unless you are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). The GCC only accepts registration from practitioners who have certain qualifications in chiropractic and who agree to comply with its code of practice.
You can read more about the qualifications required of chiropractors and the code of practice they must adhere to at the General Chiropractic Council website.
